Frederick Austin (1902-1990):
Woman Sleeping (Cunard Line) (1932)
Unmounted (ref: 2973)
Etching, plate: 8 1/4 x 10 1/4 in. (21 x 26 cm.), print: 11 3/4 x 12 1/2 in. (30 x 32 cm.)
This etching was created on the return from the Austin's honeymoon. The newly-wed Phyllis Austin (Kneafcy), a Canadian Opera singer, is shown sleeping in the cabin of the Cunard ship on which they sailed from Canada in 1932. A box of her favourite Laura Secord Candies can be seen on the bedside table.
