Portrait of an Artist

Portrait of an Artist

Liss Llewellyn are delighted to announce that our latest exhibition – Portrait of an Artist – has now opened at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle.

This exhibition offers audiences a glimpse into the studios of over 50 Modern British Artists – bringing the lives of those who existed behind the canvas to the forefront. Whether spontaneous works or more formal compositions, these images have in common the power to transport the viewer momentarily back into the artist’s milieu and the moment of creation.

The show includes many works rarely seen since the day they were produced, and features artists such as Evelyn Dunbar, Leon Underwood, Winifred Knights, Gilbert Spencer, and Hilda Carline. These will be complemented by masterpieces from the Laing’s own collection, such as those by Duncan Grant, John Singer Sargent, and Sir William Orpen.
