During WW2 Peter Pallot was commander of an MMS Class minesweeper.   Although not an official war artist he  painted many action pictures of the minesweepers on which he served. In this picture the sweep line running off the stern indicates minesweeping in progress, possibly, (on the basis of the skyline),  taking place off Harwich.   The port's cranes are on the horizon to the far left. “MMS” class, new-built Motor Minesweepers, were constructed of  wood to avoid magnetic mines.
