Hun raider dropping a parachute mine in a South Coast harbour, c. 1940
Pencil and watercolour on Whatman's watercolour sketching board
9 x 11 3/4 in. (22.8 x 29.8 cm)
This appears to show a German aeroplane dropping a parachute mine in the entrance to a harbour. The aeroplane has no markings and its shape is very reminiscent of a British aircraft - an Airspeed Oxford. The searchlights have 'coned' the aircraft and there are AA shell bursts above it.
We are grateful to Andrew Cormack for his assistance.
